Windows Phone 7.5: Day 5

Today I thought I'd explore a bit more of the gaming side of Windows Phone 7, and also a go of the on screen keyboard.

For those who haven't read my previous posts, I was previously an iPhone 4 user but got rid of it because I just couldn't continue with the on screen keyboard, spending more time correcting what I'm typing than just getting it out.

My reason for choosing the Dell Venue Pro as a replacement was not only the hardware keyboard but also that its a vertically sliding keyboard, this (so far) is unique among windows phones.

Anyway, I've heard good things about the windows phone keyboard and what Microsoft are doing to make it better than those offered by Microsoft's competitors and I must say... It's certainly an improvement, but for me, it still doesn't beat the accuracy and therefore speed of a hardware keyboard. Not to mention having the additional hardware keyboard on the Dell gives me more screen space to see what I'm doing, and being a vertical slider means the app I'm writing into doesn't have to have landscape support, which is a problem some owners with side sliding hardware keyboards have encountered, and not just on Windows Phone, that's a problem that's been around for a while.

I've heard that Swype is available for Windows Phone 7 (an Android first app, not available for iOS) but I'll have to see if there's any truth in that.

I've now had the chance to download and play some of the games available for Windows Phone 7.5 and although games on iOS are good, I thought the ones on Windows Phone 7.5 were amazing. This felt like I was playing on a PSP (or whatever it's called these days). I don't know whether this was because of the AMOLED screen, or the size (4.1" diagonal) of the screen on the Dell but it felt really good. Great graphics and very very responsive. My gripe, like with iOS is the lack of physical controls which results in my fingers getting in the way on screen when I'm trying to type. Fortunately the games I tried were a little more forgiving in this area.

Do you have any good games you could recommend?
