Web hosting is the storage of files and handling of requests from internet users. For example when someone visits www.yourdomain.com the web server serves back the correct homepage to the user, similarly when someone e-mails example@yourdomain.com the e-mail server will handle which mailbox the e-mail should go to and then store the e-mail until your collect it.
